SIP trunking requires a stable, high-quality Internet connection as the means to transit the SIP voice packets. The connectivity can be provided by any Internet Service Provider (ISP), but naturally, we recommend customers chose M12 Solutions' own ISP - Giganet - for the best support, reliability and quality.
SIP trunks from the carrier's Session Border Controllers (SBCs) are configured to target at least one customer public IP address, and two public IPs (in the case of resilient/active-standby SIP trunk configurations).
Customers will most likely need to configure port forwarding rules, or alternatively configure their phone system PBX/SBX in a DMZ so that traffic can terminate correctly.
